Cervical Cancer Educational Seminar
Posted on January 15, 2024 in Latest News
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. The Punxsutawney Area Hospital would like to encourage women in our community to make their health a priority and be an example for others by being proactive. Join members from the OBGYN Team at PAH to learn about causes, prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options of Cervical Cancer on Wednesday, January 24th at 6 p.m. for an educational seminar. This free seminar will include a question-and-answer session and will be located on the Punxsutawney Area Hospital campus in the West Wing Conference Room. Light refreshments will be served, and all attendees will receive a promotional item for participating while supplies last. According to the American Association of Cancer Research, “Increasing screening and prevention are key components of the effort to eradicate cervical cancer. Since almost all cases of the disease are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, vaccines that protect against the virus could prevent the vast majority of cases.” Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally with an estimated 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths in 2020 (World Health Organization). Hospitals are a vital part of their communities and the services they provide extend well beyond just curing injury or illness. Many hospitals are taking responsibility for the health of their communities, helping people get and stay healthy year-round. In 2024, the Punxsutawney Area Hospital will be hosting a series of educational seminars and other activities to promote wellness in our community. This educational seminar is the first in the Wellness Connections 2024 Program. Through the Community Health Needs Assessment, an aggregate data collection specific to our community, PAH is able to identify and recognize the areas of wellness our community needs additional support for. Throughout the entire year, PAH is committed to providing the community with resources, screenings, and educational opportunities with the hope to improve the overall wellness through this program.
